About Department

Department of Production Engineering was started in year 1996 with the name of “Manufacturing Science and Engineering”with an annual intake of 30. The name of this department was changed to “Production Engineering” in the year 2010with increased intake of 60. The department was accredited by NAAC in 2016 and NBA in 2009. Presently, this department has 02 Professors, 06 Associate professors and 07 Assistant Professorshaving an exceptional track record in the field of teaching as well as research and publication. The department is running B.Tech. Course in Production Engineering,M.Tech. courses (each with sanctioned intake of 18) with specializationManufacturing Systems Engineeringand Robotics & AD/CAM and Ph.D. programmes.

Production engineering, better known as manufacturing engineering, encompasses diverse traits involved in the manufacturing of a product in smoothest and cost-effective way. It is a multidisciplinary domain that aims at imparting the elements like Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Sciences and Management Science to the students those pursuing bachelor’s degree in production engineering. It is expected that after successful completion of the B Tech course in Production Engineering the students will be competent enough to plan, design, develop, implement, operate, and control processes related to fast, economic and efficient production alongside providing suitable utilization of resources as well as obligatory maintenance. Production Engineering graduates acquire decent amount of job opportunities specifically in Production, Automation, Automobile, Mining, Textile, Oil and Refineries, Fertilizer as well as Software industries and Logistics and Transportation sectors. Moreover, they also have a lot of higher study options in several specializations namely Master of Engineering in Production Engineering, Master of Technology in Production Technology and Management, Master of Business Administration in Production Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Production Management.

Keeping in view the tremendous opportunity offered in Manufacturing Engineering domain, the M. Tech. Course with specialization Manufacturing Systems Engineering has been designed with an aim to educate manufacturing professionals those design, build and manage the competitive production systems. The program highlights the association between process engineering, system design and management aspects of manufacturing alongside product quality and process control. After successful completion of the course the students will be able contribute in designing, installing, monitoring and developing manufacturing equipment and assembly lines using computer technology and by employing a systematic approach to finance, methods, materials and technology.

This post graduate course in Robotics & CAD/CAM aims to impart knowledge and skills pertaining to computer aided design, computer aided manufacturing and robotics so as to enable the manufacturing professionals to use the computer-based tools, techniques and methods, both for designing a product and controlling the manufacturing process. This is one of the most on-demand skills set, specifically owing to the need of Automation and Robotics Engineering in recent manufacturing industries scenario. The department is having a very good track record in respect of employment of the students, higher studies as well as entrepreneurship. It has an excellent state of the art laboratory facilities dedicated for teaching and research.

Scope of Production Engineering

Production Engineering has emerged as an independent discipline catering to the global need. Thus, the department was started in the year 1996 with an annual intake of 30 with the following objectives and core values.

  • Promote academic excellence.
  • Raise the level of knowledge, competence and skills in the area of manufacturing engineering.
  • Implementation of new curriculum and innovative instructional methods, such as self-paced learning, problem-solving projects, training in industry.
  • Establish and expand research capabilities for students and faculty.
  • Consulting projects that will serve industry and the community.
  • Exposure and experience with advanced manufacturing technologies such as Robotics, FMS, CIM, Non-conventional machining etc..

Core production engineering subjects, topics on advanced production technologies, IT related subjects and topics on managerial skills are carefully designed and put in the course structure to produce industry ready professionals. The job opportunities lie both in core manufacturing sectors and IT sectors. Due to high rate of globalization and industrialization, the scope of employment for manufacturing professionals is vast and is ever increasing.
